ABOUT
The Raleigh Edition
I'm Maggie Hutten.
I'm fortunate enough to have been adopted by this hometown of Raleigh about five years ago now. While bits of my heart will always remain in the places I've wandered- Maine, Boston, NYC, San Francisco, Santa Barbara- this is the here and now that has captured my imagination and the place I call home.
When my family and I moved to town, I knew no one and had only a few resources to guide our explorations as we tried to find our way and navigate all of the choices a city like Raleigh offered. I struggled a bit, to be honest. My wish now is to connect with others who relocate like we did to help them settle in comfortably and quickly. We were fortunate to have built amazing connections shortly after we first moved, but not everyone does. I would love to change that…whether someone’s move is across the states, from overseas, or just into a new neighborhood.
So, I have shared my Little Black Book of Raleigh. This is in no way an exhaustive list, but, instead, a preliminary guide for others who would like to learn from my own personal experiences and take some of the guesswork away as you work your way through the necessities of life. Please reach out to me if I can help you in any way (see Help Desk!). Any move is difficult, but a move without a warm welcome can seem impossible. Allow me to welcome you.
And for those of you whom have called Raleigh home for a lifetime, or generations....let The Raleigh Edit help remind you of what's GREAT in this town, through a fresh pair of eyes, or introduce you to something NEW on the scene. Or, let's just have a conversation about what is relevant to you since we both have boots on the ground. I'm happy to collect our stories, taking the pulse of people, places and things that elevate the everyday here in Raleigh.
For now...
Your Cali girl living in a Raleigh world,
With love,
Maggie
...about you...
Whether you are new to Raleigh or just new to my site, allow me to show you what makes my heart sing in the City of Oaks. While I'm excited to test out all of the new happenings around town, I won't ignore beloved long-standing favorites. There is plenty of love to go around as I curate and highlight the best of the best, in my humble opinion. Let this blog be an antidote to all of the criticism we often see in city guides. I refuse to publish harsh words here, realizing the impact of negative press and the reality of one poorly managed day, one undercooked dish, or one short-term employee with a grudge. Instead, I'd like to highlight all of the good, the really really GOOD this city has to offer. Let's start that conversation from an encouraging place. I'd love to hear from you what you would like to see from me. Tell me about your own experiences and together let's continue to welcome all to Raleigh with a generous spirit and irrepressible heart!
